We have another new Othello variant ready to share with you - it's Octagon Othello! If you've ever found it hard to get your pieces to claim the crucial corner squares, then this variant might be for you! That's because the corner squares have been removed and there are more corners!

The rules are exactly the same as Othello, the only difference is the board size and shape. Octagon Othello is played on a Grand Othello 10x10 board, but with three squares in each corner removed. This leaves 88 squares in total for the game to play out on!

We've been able to enable Fairy Stockfish for this game, so you can have a go against any of the Stockfish bots as well as the PS bots. You will also be able to request computer analysis of your games, so you can see where the game winning moves were!

As with any new game on PlayStrategy, we have an Introductory Tournament - your chance to win a one-off trophy for the new variant! This tournament will be held on Saturday 15th November at 18:00 UTC+0 for 1 hour. Octagon Othello will then join the rest of the PlayStrategy tournament schedule, most notably with the 2025 Octagon Othello yearly on Friday 21st November.

We are hopeful that this isn't the last new variant to be added in 2025 on PlayStrategy - so keep looking out for more new games. Spoiler, it won't be another Othello variant...
