We're excited to share two new variants that have landed on PlayStrategy today.

The first is Grand Abalone, which is a simple variant of Abalone with a bigger board and more pieces. Players get to make two moves per turn (with exception of the opening turn for the starting player). The rules also require players to be the first to push out 10 of their opponent's marbles to win.

As with any new game on PlayStrategy, we have an Introductory Tournament - your chance to win a one-off trophy for the new variant! This tournament will be held on Saturday 11th April at 11:00 UTC+0 for 1 hour. Grand Abalone also joins the rest of the PlayStrategy tournament schedule, including being part of a new medley, the Abalone Medley Shield. The first of this new monthly series is on Sunday 19th April at 16:00 UTC+0.

Our second new variant is Grand Mini Breakthrough! This is a variant of Mini Breakthrough - the rules are the same, but instead of having a small 5x5 board, the race to be the first to get a pawn to the end of the board is played on a larger 8x8 board! You can give this variant a go in a tournament today at 16:00 UTC+0!
