Weekly Challenge 84: Do Not Retrace Your Steps

Win a game of Amazons vs @PS-Greedy-Two-Move when on each turn you fire your arrow back to the square you just moved your Amazon piece from.

Adjudication Criteria:
1. Fewest moves (plies)
2. Earliest Entry

Closing Date: Monday 18th November 1200 UTC+0

Sorry @e-pluszak, but move 23 does not follow the rule of this challenge. All of the other 39 moves do!

I thinl that firing addition would make for a great variant of this game! Would anyone want Amazons with this arrow shot restirction sometime?

It would make a variant, but I’m not sure it would make a great variant. It stops being like amazons really.

There are games like this though, Battle sheep, Hey that’s my fish, Icebreaker, mattock. I do feel like these have some more interesting themes to them.

Essentially in this variant you’re just deleting the tile you stand on. I think though, being able to move in 8 directions means it’s probably doesn’t block paths very well so it might not be as enjoyable as if the same style game was played on a hex grid. Or sometimes a square grid where you can only move four directions is too restrictive to be interesting.

There’s a lot of game design questions there to tackle.

Does this one look ok? I think I’ve double checked it now. 30 moves, 59 ply

Already from trying this challenge, Amazons is a much more interesting game than a variant where you just break the block you’re standing on :)
