the undeserved victory of the bot

The score for go games uses Chinese scoring, which means its counting the stones on the board and the areas each player owns. Therefore in the game you link the bot has won 92.5 to 84. As the bot was white it also get komi of 7.5 which modifies the score from 85 -> 92.5.

@Vladimir could you explain why you think you should have won?

What Jheps says about the scoring system and komi is all true. However, I think I might know where the confusion lies...

During the game you were capturing lots of the bots pieces. This is indicated by the blue number shown during the game when the score for all our other games (which have scores) is. By my calculation you were leading on captures something like 22-1.

It is important to note that this 'capture count' is not how Go is scored. Go is scored as Jheps says by counting area owned. The capture count is something Go players expect to be able to see in an online interface and it gives them a guide as to how the game is going. But the true score is the number shown in red, which can only be seen when both players have passed and are agreeing on the dead stones.

I hope this helps, for full details on the rules and implementation of Go on PlayStrategy, please see: playstrategy.org/variant/go19x19
