Since everyone is proposing their new variants I'm going to propose "DiaGOnal", a go variant which uses diagonals as liberties instead of orthogonal lines.

Essentially, yes, if that helps interpret the board situation. However, I would still like the board to be a square instead of a diamond, but that's up to personal preference.
