Lines of Action is a game where to win you have to connect all of your pieces. The connection of pieces can be horizontal, vertical, and diagonal.

You play a turn by moving a piece in any direction (horizontally, vertically, diagonally) a number of squares exactly equal to the number of pieces in that line.

Black goes first and so we are playing the Black pieces in this tutorial.

In the opening move we're going to move the piece circled in green on d1. Click on it and you'll see we have three possible moves...

We can move this piece two spaces in three directions: up-left (b3), up (d3), or up-right (f3). For each of these options this is because there are two pieces in the line of movement.

In the case of moving straight up, it is two spaces because there are two pieces in this line of movement - our own piece on d1, and the white piece on d8. Give this move a go yourself by clicking the dot on d3 (circled in blue)!
