PlayStrategyAnnouncement

The latest game on PlayStrategy is Entropy!

We're delighted to introduce you to the latest game that has been added to the PlayStrategy library: Entropy.

Entropy is a simple but highly strategic game with a little bit of randomness which keeps every game different. The game was designed by Eric Solomon in 1977 and is "based on the eternal conflict in the universe between order and chaos". Entropy is a staple of the Mind Sports Olympiad schedule, with the Entropy World Championship being held in each of the 30 editions of the MSO. You can find a study which shows some of the top games from the 2026 tournament here, including the match-ups between all three of the medallists.

Entropy is played on a 7×7 board. One player is Order, the other Chaos. Order is trying to make symmetrical patterns vertically and horizontally, whilst Chaos is trying to prevent this. A match is two games. The players swap roles between them, so each player players one game as Order and one game as Chaos. Only Order scores, and whoever scores more as Order wins the match. On a turn, Chaos draws a random counter from the bag, which can be one of 7 colours and places it on an empty square. Order then gets to slide one piece in a single direction, like a rook in Chess. The full rules, with scoring examples can be seen here.

As with any new game on PlayStrategy, we have an Introductory Tournament - your chance to win a one-off trophy for the new variant! This tournament will be held on Sunday 11th October at 16:00 UTC+0 for 2 hours. Entropy will then join the rest of the PlayStrategy tournament schedule, most notably with the first shield tournament on Thursday 15th October at 12:00 UTC+0, and the 24-hour Entropy yearly on Friday 4th December.

We are hopeful that this isn't the last new variant to be added in 2026 on PlayStrategy - so keep looking out for more new games!
