Draughts to begin!

Which variant of draughts that are in this site do you recomend to start studying the game?

Thanks!

Pool draughts is the most flexible option for one who intends to play Russian or Brazilian some day. The compatibility of Pool draughts to Russian and Brazilian is very high; at least to 80%.
There is only one little step from Pool draughts to Russian draughts: mastering Ferris wheel shot (which occurs very rarely, not more than in 5% of all games).
Similarly, there is only one only one little step from Pool draughts to Brazilian draughts: exploiting majority capturing rule.
By the way, Pool draughts is more strategical variant than Brazillian or Russian, because you have less opportunities to escape a loss by some tactical ideas.

Yet, if you intend to master some straight jumping variant, the best choice would be English draughts, because once you master English opening theory , you will be able to adjust that knowledge to Italian, Spanish, Czech, Tanzanian etc.
By the way, I would be glad if "PlayStrategy" could include TANZANIAN draughts which is very flexible variant: from one side, it would allow to attract English draughts players who would like to play with flying kings, and from other side, it would allow to attract Pool draughts players who would like to play with "straight jumping rule" (see http://mlwi.magix.net/bg/spanishcheckersvariants.htm ; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanzanian_draughts )

Absolutely wonderful @kalnap

Thanks a lot for taking your time and answer this way!

Ill try the English draughts then!

Thanks

Let me recommend "Checker cruncher" for trainings in English draughts: www.checkercruncher.com/ , which is very friendly for beginners and intermediate players. "Checker cruncher" offers opening explorer and puzzles.

Hi,

Are there any good engines to analyze pool checkers/brazilian draughts games?

I'm afraid not, Lidraughts have not (yet) implemented an engine to analyze 8x8. From what I know there's a programme called Aurora which may help.

I’ll 2nd Kalnap Checker Cruncher is a great resource for English draughts problems and games, with an excellent opening database
