We are excited to share with you that we have supported McMahon style Swiss tournaments for Go.
McMahon tournaments help reduce the probability that a very strong player plays against a very weak player. To create better pairings, an initial score (MMS) is given to players based on their grade and if they are above a cutoff rating. For pairings where there is a difference in the players score (>1 point) a handicap game is played. The current handicapped setup is still to be determined but is currently set similar to the Go handicapped tournaments. You can also use the input rating option to ensure the players of the tournament have their “correct” rating. Read more about this at playstrategy.org/swiss#mcmahon
We have also made some very minor improvements to the go bots (PS-Greedy-One-Move, PS-Greedy-Two-Move) so it should provide slightly better training for beginners. We still plan on adding top-level AI for Go in the future.
