As long as they are free to use and are appropriate for the site, then we will consider using them.
pychess has a number of images for xiangqi we might be able to use, given licencing requirements.
Do you have some examples somewhere?

Thanks for the PR - there is slightly more involved when adding piece sets, which we can complete at a later date. Thanks for expressing an interest for adding more set from pychess, now we know where the images are from we will be able to complete this task.
Given other priorities, this may take a while to release, but at least it's now on our list! :)
