We’re excited to announce the launch of a new clock type – Byoyomi. Byoyomi is typically used in games such as Shogi and Go. Byoyomi clocks are an extension to our main clock which is called Fischer. If you are using a Byoyomi clock, instead of running out of time you enter a Byoyomi period, which will be a constant amount of time (1s to 180s). You then have that much time for each move for the rest of the game. If you run out of time again you move into another Byoyomi period if available otherwise you will lose on time and lose the game.
The notation for the Byoyomi clocks is as follows:
3+2|5(2X) (means the standard 3 min and 2s increment, followed by Byoyomi for 5s and two periods). After your clock runs out of time the first time you move into Byoyomi time and have 5s for each move. As there are two periods you are allowed to run out of time once more, keeping 5s for each move, but that is the last chance.
0|10 (means you move straight into Byoyomi time and have only 10s for each move)
We are holding a practise tournament to test out Byoyomi clocks this Sunday 10:00 UTC, please join in and have fun playing mini-shogi with the new clocks. playstrategy.org/tournament/CnL7tNvC
New clock type - Byoyomi
Thank you for running tournament and system updates.
In Japanese Shogi, when the time runs out and the Byoyomi starts, it is common to only count down the Byoyomi time per move.
For example, Byoyomi = 10 seconds, once you run out of time, you will always only have 10 seconds per move.
In the first few games, I was worried that I wasn't getting the Byoyomi time because I kept having seconds left on my previous move.
I would appreciate it if you could consider it.

Thanks for the feedback Komacchin, we agree the display for the byoyomi clocks could be a lot clearer (we have just matched the design from lishogi to get us up and running). We have a ticket in our system to improve the display to make it clearer when a user is/isn't in byoyomi and hopefully that will improve the overall experience.
You can't set up such a watch normally!!!!
I can no longer create challenges over the API as I was used to:
{"clock.byoyomi":["This field is required"],"clock.periods":["This field is required"],"clock.limit":["Error","Error"]}
Can you update the API reference according to the new feature?
