New Game: Amazons

We've got a new game on PlayStrategy which we are excited to share with you: Amazons!

Amazons is a different type of game to anything we've had on PlayStrategy so far. The game is all about area control as Amazon rivals fight for territory and position until one player can't move anymore.

Each player starts with just 4 Amazon pieces which move identically to a Chess Queen. On each turn, a player does two things, first they move an Amazon and then they place an arrow/blockade on any square that the Amazon that has just moved can now reach.

You can find our full rules page here: playstrategy.org/variant/amazons. The gameplay is really simple and easy to pickup, however the strategic depth is complex!

Unfortunately it won't be possible to analyse or play any of our bots (except @PS-Random-Mover) to begin with. We hope to support those items for Amazons soon, but in the meantime we do have a couple of imminent tournaments lined up where you'll be sure to get some opponents. We have the MSO Grand Prix tournament on Tuesday 7th March: playstrategy.org/swiss/qXdb9D8d but before then we have scheduled the Introductory tournament which will be on Sunday 5th March at 1700 UTC: playstrategy.org/tournament/9zegcAYA

Really enjoying amazons :)

What about a couple of additional piece sets for the Queens in amazons. Since the current one is borrowing from the chess themes anyway, could it possible to add a few simpler looking ones like the queen from the "Cardinal" theme or "cburnett" something else?

I can kind of kind of appreciate though the queen from the "fantasy" theme does have an amazons vibe to it - so I do kind of like it for that reason, more than the bow and arrow. The bow and arrow is a bit too busy looking for me :)

That's just my preference.

Thanks, we go through waves of adding new piece sets. We will consider adding some other options in the future.
