New Game: Togyzkumalak

We're excited to announce the launch of a new game for PlayStrategy: Togyzkumalak!

Togyzkumalak is a Mancala game, and so is from the same family as Oware.

You can find the full rules here: playstrategy.org/variant/togyzkumalak, but in comparison to Oware, there are 9 pits on each side which start with 9 stones in each - meaning you need to capture 82 stones to win! Movement is similar to Oware but you normally begin by dropping a stone back into the starting pit. A capture is made when you finish distributing your seeds into a pit of your opponents which now contains an even number of seeds. Finally you get the opportunity to mark one pit on your opponents side as a 'Tuzdik' when you make a capture of 3 stones. Any subsequent stones that land in this pit are yours! There are a few more subtleties so we suggest you do take a look at the rules but that is Togyzkumalak in a nutshell!

We will be running a Togyzkumalak Introductory tournament on Saturday 18th February at 1430 UTC here: playstrategy.org/tournament/Gs7Xr7n6

The Mind Sports Olympiad will be running their Togyzkumalak tournament at the same time on the following week here: playstrategy.org/swiss/Rxbljh5g

And if you want to try and play Oware and Togyzkumalak all in one tournament then be sure to check out the MSO's Mancala Medley on Sunday 26th February 1545 UTC: playstrategy.org/tournament/4oETn4W9

Amazing.

You guys rock!

Very nice game!

All the PS bots can now play Togyzkumalak, not sure how strong they are so see if you can beat them! :)

We have made the decision to move the Introductory tournament for Togyzkumalak (playstrategy.org/tournament/Gs7Xr7n6) forward by 2.5 hours to a start time of 1200 UTC+0. This is to accommodate a group of interested Togyzkumalak players who are new to the site and were unable to make the time original time of 1430 UTC+0. We have contacted players who have signed up to this tournament to inform them of the change.
