Pente and Renju

I know that this may be a long way off if at all, but having pente, as well as Renju and Gomoku here with variable opening rules and options would be great. (Swap2, Soorsyrv-8, Taraguchi-10, boat rules etc.)

swap2 boat pente along with the option for forbidden rules like in Renju would be an amzing addition.

Renju has a large tournament scene with high level play and most players of one of the three (pente, gomoku, and renju) are interested at least a bit in the others.

It could be a good way to grow the site to try and lean into that community and give them playstrategy's user friendly interface.

I've tried playing on vint.ee and really don't like the interface, and while pente.org is great, the layout seems a bit dated and there's no way to play with the swap2 opening rule or add the forbidden moves ruleset.

Pente is a game we would like to add, and it is already on our (long) list of potential games to add. Its not in the immediate plans, but I've made a note of the request! I wasn't aware of all the various variations so thanks for the post!

@statmatt Yeah I figured it can't be made a priority given all the work it would take, but I figured I'd ask about it and see if you guys could start laying out a plan if its ever on your radar. Playstrategy is a great place for all these variants so far.

For these games, I figure that when creating a seek you could select the game (Renju, Gomoku, or Pente), then have a seperate selector that allows you to select opening rules (Soorsyrv-8, Taraguchi-10, swap2, Pro or free). There are a lot of opening rules, but soorsyrv or taraguchi are the tournament standard for renju, swap2 for gomoku, and then swap2 or Pro for Pente. Free is just no opening rule at all.

They affect matches a lot but not the core gameplay per se.

Having boat rules selectable on or off for pente is also important for tournaments.

I would be interested in playing pente on playstrategy if it were here. I've played a bit on pente.org before but the lobby for real time games is usually pretty empty so I just played correspondence games. Maybe if pente were implemented here having regular shield tournaments might attract more people.
