Lichess has an official WC for every variant except for KOTH and chess960. since those are official, we could make a RKWC for only playstrategy, so like the best player in RK who uses playstrategy!

My understanding of WC events is that you need to have some claim for an event to be classed as a WC. Usually this is the permission of the publisher/author of a game, but might extend to what the community of that game agree on as a WC where this is less clear.
As such I expect lichess have been granted some form of permission to be able to host an event as a WC in some of the variants on their platform.
In short, we can't just create a tournament and claim it to be an official WC. The closest we can get to this is through our association with the Mind Sports Olympiad, and through them we have run official MSO online tournaments for Racing Kings in the last two years. The 2023 tournament you can find here: playstrategy.org/swiss/uGvUcpKD. The MSO runs many tournaments, but only some have the status of an official WC in that game (following the rules stated above).
I expect the MSO to be running another tournament in Racing Kings in 2024 as part of their Grand Prix, which I would expect to be held between January-March like this year.
For the rest of this year, the most prestigious events for Racing Kings on PlayStrategy will be the 24hr 'Yearly' tournament which is in October: playstrategy.org/tournament/3sw2yqGR or the monthly shield which run on the 5th of each month. The next one is here: playstrategy.org/tournament/8AdSVi0Y
If you want to create your own Racing Kings tournament which you can attract a reasonable field for, then feel free to create a team and tournament at a time that suits you and other players.
@statmatt i mean that it will be a WC for playstrategy.org. it won't be world-official. just playstrategy official. the winner would be "The RK playstrategy champion"
@CVirus I'm afraid it doesn't make much sense to me, a 'World Championship' that isn't really a WC and is actually a 'PlayStrategy Championship'? If you are looking to claim/award a title of 'The RK PlayStrategy champion' I would feel it is deserving of going to the winner of one of the tournaments previously mentioned.
Besides I still think the calendar of tournaments PlayStrategy offers is adequate:
- The most prestigious set of tournaments on PlayStrategy are the Mind Sports Olympiad Grand Prix events which affiliated with the MSO bring 27 years of heritage and physical medals to be won. 2023's RK event: playstrategy.org/swiss/uGvUcpKD
- The biggest PlayStrategy tournament for RK is the 24hr 'Yearly': playstrategy.org/tournament/3sw2yqGR
- A monthly shield tournament for RK that gives a temporary trophy for the winner's profile and contributes to a leaderboard.
- A 'weekly' tournament for RK that fills the gaps between Shields
Another tournament claiming to be the best and most important tournament on PlayStrategy would dilute what we already have, and not necessarily be unique enough.
@CVirus We already have the plan to organize the King of the Hill WC in Lichess and is going to be in August of this year!
The 960 one is kind of useless since there is an Official Championship in the World. It would be like doing the Standard Chess one.
