We are excited to share with you that we have changed the way Stockfish interacts with the site. It now uses our bot api route and as such we have created 8 new bots (for Stockfish levels 1-8) for you to play against. These should essentially be the same strength as the original Stockfish levels.

The new Stockfish bots have ratings, and depending on their performance across our games (as you play them), we may tweak their parameters to get them at the right level.

That's cool! I tried a Mini Breakthrough game with 3000 rated Stockfish 8, but only got 8 rating points for the 1000+ rating difference 😢

It would be nice to replace Tom where he is usually very weak like Monster or Crazyhouse with Level 3 (or similar) Stockfish in tournaments

Thanks a ton now I can chose a bot I could beat that still gives a challenge.

@FiveKnights I think the ratings for the bots are 'unstable' which is why I think they'll give out less rating points at the start.

We're definitely going to consider changing up the tournament bot in the future

Will Stockfish bots be able to play all variants one day?

@Nappi It's up to the people that run and are involved in the github.com/fairy-stockfish project. I don't see it as likely that they would ever extend to things like Backgammon, but something like LOA is a possibility.

We would like to add high-level engines/bots for all our games, but for many games that wouldn't be Stockfish precisely.
