Grand Chess and Shako are two really popular variants, as far as i know the only site with both games is pychess, both variants are played in a 10*10 board, and features two additional piece types which add quite a lot of strategy and depth into game, and also i have two games that i think would be a great addition to the site
First off, i have a variant of Grand Chess called "Colossal Chess" which replaces the Archbishop with Bishop + Zebra, Chancellor with Rook + Camel, and two other piece types, pieces combining movement of Knight and King behind the Rook + Camel and King and pieces combining Zebra and Camel movement beside the rooks.
The second one is an original game i call "StakRace", in this game you're going to try to safely deliver one of your pieces to the opponent's first rank (it means the opponent wouldn't be able to capture that piece on their turn), the most similar games i can think of are Murus Gallicus and Explocus (both are great game that deserve to be in this site). More details are going to be added soon.
I hope Grand Chess and Shako got added, and (although VERY unlikely) Colossal Chess and StakRace too.
Variant suggestion (Grand Chess, Shako and my own games/variants)
If different sized chess boards are being considered, I think it would be nice to have a smaller version of chess like the mini shogi and mini xiangqi games. Los Alamos chess is one example but I know there are many other smaller versions of chess.
Just for inspiration, please, consider other shaped boards where same pieces are used and same rules applied:
* Troitzky chess (see glukkazan.github.io/checkmate/troitzky-chess.htm ; glukkazan.github.io/checkmate/byway-chess.htm );
* Balbo's game: (see glukkazan.github.io/checkmate/balbo-chess.htm ).
The non-traditional shape of board ensures that 2 knights + king can win against lonely king; you can test your skills at glukkazan.github.io/checkmate/troitzky-ending.htm !
Thanks for the multiple new game suggestions. I've added these to our (rather long) list of potential next games to add.
@statmatt may I ask what else you have on the list?
Lots of things from variants of games that are already on the site, to completely different abstract games. We hope to have some new ones to show you soon!
