The interesting thing about the challenge is likely the idea of creating a single line, either vertically or horizontally.

Apologies for the challenge being unclear. The intention is to not allow entries to have any pieces that are connected only through diagonals.

So it does not need to be one straight line (maybe this will be a future challenge...)

So something like @e-pluszak's entry is valid, and I see @FiveKnights was proposing an equal solution earlier before the confusion.
