New Medley

PlayStrategy already have a medley for chess variants, for draughts variants, and for all games. I think it'd be great if PlayStrategy could add a medley for asian games only (shogi, mini, xiangqi, mini, go 9, 13, 19)

You mean a Shield? Like an Asian Shield.

At the beggining the post looks like there where not possible to create a Medley tournament of those games you mention only.

And I guess you have a very nice idea!

By the way. Chess comes from Asia as well, :D

Lets hope soon we could see more games like the one you mentioned more popular in the "West World".

It could be tricky to define what is eligible for this Medley group. As well as Shogi, Xiangqi, and Go, (and Chess), Othello also originates from Asia and could be another contender.

We'll give it some thought. If you would be likely to play regularly in some sort of weekly Medley consisting of:
- Shogi
- Xiangqi
- Go
- Othello
Please give a thumbs up to this message. If you want to debate the precise ingredients for this medley further, please continue the discussion in this thread.

Maybe add Togyzkumalak on, as it comes from Kazakhstan ?

@tititogepi

At the end it might be possible to considering a king "Chinese" Medley since:

Xiangqi is Chinese

GO was originated in China.

Shogi I am not sure where exactly comes from but in went through China at some point.

I am not entirely sure if Togyzkumalak was born in Kazakhstan, since this game is part of the Mancala, and those games are mainly Africans. Maybe someone could give help with this!

On the other hand is interesting to mention that even though Chess was invented in India. The game as we know it this days was contemplated in Europe in the 15th century.

I'm almost sure shogi comes from Japan :) But as you said, it's played a lot in China! @oruro

I actually meant that at the "begining" in the way to Japan Shogi crossed China. Im not sure actually, google knows it I guess :D

If is played a lot in China I did not know, but makes sense. I know it is very popular in Japan.

Anyway your idea to create a New Medley separating more games sounds great! :)

Well the origins of Othello/Reversi supposedly date back 1000s of years. The modern ruleset and name 'Othello' originate in mid-20th century Japan.

In my mind at least, Go and Othello have some similarities and may work well together in a medley. They are quite different from the chess style games of Shogi and Xiangqi.
