Several games I'd like to see in PlayStrategy

These games have some really cool mechanics that expand upon the already existing games in this site, so seeing it being available here would be quite cool I'd say.

1 - Shako [Jean-Louis Cazaux] and Grand Chess [Christian Freeling]

These might sound like redundant additions to the site considering it's already on PyChess, however I do feel like these games are such natural extensions to the world of fairy pieces that I'd be happy to see them being featured on other sites including this one, as sites other than PyChess typically only take orthodox Chess (and it's minor variants) in a serious manner.

2 - Hexdame [Christian Freeling] and Turkish Draughts [Traditional]

Considering Dameo's already on the same site AND is made by Christian Freeling, I can't see why these two games shouldn't make the cut for this site. Not to mention there are basically no modern sites serving Turkish Draughts so there might be an opportunity to grab quite a large demographic, considering Turkey's population size of around 85 million (at the time of this writing).

3 - Blooms [Nick Bentley]

This is probably one of the more underrated abstracts so far. It's pretty much what'd happen if you put Go in a hexagonal board (plus make it a bit more colorful, twice as colorful I might add). Would be a pretty good alternative to Go for this site (and also Go won't be alone anymore in it's own category).

4 - Desdemona [Ray Alicia], MacBeth [Christian Freeling] and Veletas [Luis Bolaños Mures]

A really interesting hybrid between Othello and Amazons. Here the arrows are now colored with player colors (which behave like Othello pieces) and whoever has the most pieces at the end of the game wins.

Another game that might be of interest is MacBeth, an almost 1 to 1 translation of Othello into a hexagonal board. Tactics are a bit simpler (at least, for me) due to the board geometry making it only having edges and corners, but still a ton of fun.

And capping it off, a game that I'd consider to be Desdemona's (distant) "cousin" from the other side is Veletas. Here, the goal is to move neutral pieces (called shooters) and then eventually trap them, where the shooters then belong to whoever owns the largest group surrounding the shooter in question. Quite reminiscent to Amazons in some way, definitely a game worth checking out.

Below are games that while I do find to be very entertaining, I'd understand if these never end up being in this site. These do not necessarily correlate well with any of the already existing games on this site, but I do really like them.

1 - Circle of Life [Nick Bentley]

Very mesmerizing tactics, that's all I can say about the game, very enjoyable as well!

2 - Palago [Cameron Browne] and Spangles [David L. Smith]

Two very interesting *tile* games (there is no board here, which I think could present serious problems in terms of development) that very much deserve much more attention.

3 - Gounki [Christophe Malavasi], Iro [Khanat Sadomwattana], Gyges [Claude Leroy] and Camelot [George S. Parker]

Four extremely addictive race games that I just can't recommend enough, though with their own problems (which are not the games' fault to be fair) (Camelot and Gyges might have licensing issues. Gounki has a piece stacking mechanic that could be quite problematic, and Iro might need some work with it's color mechanic, that being said all these games are pure bangers)

4 - Metamachy [Jean Louis-Cazaux]

To top it off, a chess variant that I think is very unlucky due to it's board size not being supported by Fairy-Stockfish. It can be thought of as an enlarged Shako with slightly more pieces (and more mobile pawns to compensate for the increase in board size), definitely worth it to check it out.

And that's all for my suggestions for this site, hope it was not way too long lol :p If statmatt or some other person involved with this site ends up seeing them, thanks for checking out my post!

and by "race game" I mean games with similar objectives to Breakthrough and Backgammon (the games of this type that's already on this site)

Hi @TobiasOfTheEast thanks for all of the suggestions, some interesting games that we were aware of and some lesser-known games!

It is undecided what games will be added to PlayStrategy next, and the decision is based on numerous factors (ease to add, communities wanting to use PlayStrategy, licensing restrictions, to name a few).

However you've made a good case for several of the games you suggest, and I've certainly made a note of your suggestions.

Thanks @statmatt! I usually play Ai Ai and boardspace.net where all these games can be found (at least on one of the sites). Those programs have some really interesting abstracts that have many games worth checking out.

Also on boardspace there's a game similar to Abalone, called "Traboulet" [also called Kuba, Serge Cahu] and also another game similar to Circle of Life (from the same creator!) called "Bug". Very interesting games as well!

Another source for my board game submissions is Board Game Arena (where the Nick Bentley games can be played).
